Buttrfly's metamorphosis

Like many novel ideas, Buttrfly emerged from it's chrysalis as a solution to a problem we faced ourselves: why is the entire process of going out, from discovering to organising to documenting, still so fragmented?

Strangers’ reviews can be biased, unreliable, or simply not for you. The recommendations that matter most tend to come from people who know you best.

Ultimately, we wanted to create a habitual tool that empowers users to discover and experience more, by making the process streamlined, personal, and social.

How is it different from Google Maps or other review sites?

The fundemental premise of public review systems is flawed, and that’s where we differentiate. They’re inherently susceptible to being skewed, gamified or faked by people you don’t know. With Buttrfly, your activity isn’t public, it’s shared privately through your social network, creating a more trusted and personal discovery experience. No public performance, no incentive to game the system. Just recommendations from people you actually know.

Recommendations work in two ways: users can request a venue, dish or drink recommendation directly from another user or privately from their followers; or they can recommend something themselves by logging a visit, with their chosen dish or drink then surfaced as a recommendation to their followers.
